Anthony Micheal has come out to lament his ordeals two months after the unlawful termination of his contract by Niger Tornadoes FC, Sports247 reports.
The professional footballer, Micheal had reported the unlawful termination of his contract by Niger Tornadoes in December 2024, a month after his wedding with the club declaring him surplus to requirements.
He got a written assurance from the NPFL in a letter addressed to the club chairman signed by NPFL COO, that the Niger Tornadoes must pay him a compensation fee of One million naira, three hundred and fifty thousand naira otherwise the club will be sanctioned.
Two months since the termination, Niger Tornadoes have failed to heed the call, as Micheal opens up on how he has been coping with life without any means of livelihood since December 2024.
” Life has been hard, my young family has been suffering”, Micheal detailed his ordeals with our correspondent in a telephone chat.
” It’s not been easy sir, I must confess, since my contract was terminated a few days after my marriage in November 2024.”
” Taking proper care of my pregnant wife has been a struggle and I can no longer support my younger siblings school fees. My rent is due and my aged Dad’s is deteriorating as I can no longer afford his frequent hospital check up and medication” Micheal laments.
Helpless and Hopeless
The chances that the player will get his compensation sooner is very low.
Our check on the possibility of NPFL sanctioning Niger Tornadoes for not heeding to their directives is almost non existent.
According to an insider, who revealed to our correspondent that the body is only relying on deducting the compensation from the money due Niger Tornadoes from the NPFL which may not be effected until the end of the season, or whenever such payments would be made it may not be anytime soon.
If NPFL fails to stamp it’s authority on these erring clubs, frequent unlawful termination of players contract would soon be the order of the day, all to the detriments of the Nigerian league and players, who suffer the bulk of the rot.
