Nigeria’s Para Table Tennis star, Isau Ogunkunle has expressed gratitude for the opportunity given to him to represent Nigeria on the international scene as he shared more light on why he missed out on the gold medal of the para-table tennis in the just concluded Common Wealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom.
The very energetic sportsman has taken the blame upon himself, stressing that his impatience cost him a gold medal at the games. He sees himself as good enough for the gold medal but happy to come home with at least a bronze medal. Speaking to a journalist after his third-place game, the Common Wealth first-timer said he has actually prepared for the gold medal.
“This is my first Common Wealth Games and my preparation was for winning the gold medal but I think that’s enough and I am happy I didn’t go home empty-handed. I really learned that I needed to always calm down. I was in a hurry to gain points and that really cost me the gold medal”.
Ogunkunle Has been in the Table Tennis sports since 2010 and started representing Nigeria in 2011 and he is more than proud to have won his first medal for the country. The new Common Wealth medalist has represented Nigeria in the Paralympic Games in Tokyo, in Egypt, and also in the just concluded Common Wealth Games in Birmingham where he won Nigeria’s first medal in the table tennis event of any world championship
