My Baptism To Nigerian Football Was A Bitter-Sweet Experience – Segun Solanke, President, Olumo United

President of Olumo United Football Club, Segun Solanke has described his entry into Nigerian football as a bitter-sweet experience.

Speaking journalists in Lagos after the valiant but unsuccessful attempt of his team to pick up the qualification ticket from its games at the NLO zonal matches played at the Oluyemi Kayode stadium, Ado-Ekiti.

The citizens, as Olumo United are fondly called by their teeming fans, who was making its debut in the Nigerian football league placed fourth on the log after the qualification games.

On his impressions about the Nigerian football league and its system, USA-trained Solanke remarked that it was a systematic and cultural shock for him. Particularly, the structure and organisation of Nigerian football.

While he expressed his dismay over some issues during the NLO zonal league games in Ado-Ekiti that eventually affected his team’s qualification dreams, he however took solace in the valiant efforts, discipline, and determination of his players and the technical crew throughout the matches.

” We have our shortcomings, but definitely, as a new team in the system, we will have flaws. But on a first outing and with little time to prepare, we believe, we can do more with time,” Solanke enthused confidently.

He went on to disclose plans to celebrate players and officials of the team on their modest, but impressive performances. Stating that the management would organize an event to express its appreciation, entertain, as well as, reward them with cash prizes.
