Mutiu Adepoju, a former Super Eagles player has disclosed that the 1998 World Cup in France was his best World Cup appearance for the national team.
Adepoju represented Nigeria in three different World Cup tournaments -1994, 1998 and 2002.
The head master as he is fondly called revealed this while chatting with journalists on the Family United by Football WhatsApp platform over the past weekend.
“In three WCs, I would say my best was in 1998. In 1994, I was young and mostly used as a sub. 1998, I show cased my talents, I was matured, even though I did not play in my preferred position but I loved it.”
The former Real Sociedad player further explained that he was happy with his role at 2002 World Cup even though he did not kick a ball.
“In 2002, I was there to motivate the younger players, even though I didn’t play I was happy with the role to nurture the younger generation.”
Mutiu Adepoju scored in the 3-2 win against Spain at the 1998 World Cup and played for the national team 48 times, finding the net six times.
