Al-Nassr of Saudi Arabia attacker, Ahmed Musa has declared that he is ready to carry Nigeria’s weight in Saturday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, for which he is set to captain the Super Eagles.
Musa, who has previously played for VV Venlo of Holland, CSKA Moscow of Moscow and Telecaster City of England, admitted that he will have to wear the band in the absence of regular skipper, John Mikel Obi, but said he is up to the task.
Musa admitted that the Eaglkes would miss Mikel in Saturday’s game, but added in a chat with sports247.ng that it is now up to him and the other players to do well in the captain’s absence.
Musa added that the team will thrive despite the absence of Mikel, in much the same way they also did without him in the 3-0 win away to Seychelles last time out.
The former Kano Pillars attacker intoned further: “I personally have a resolve to carry the team and champion Nigeria’s quest to play at the 2019 AFCON in Cameroon.
“Having played in only one edition of the tournament in South Africa, where Nigeria emerged as champions in 2013, I want the chance to play there again and possibly win it again.
“The chance to get there again is now with us in this match against Libya. We will is our captain, but we must try hard to do well without him, so that he will be proud us for helping the team closer to qualification.”
