Al-Nassr of Saudi Arabia attacker, Ahmed Musa has confirmed that he had to stay back in Nigeria after starring for the Super Eagles against Libya, instead of rejoining his club, in order to see his ill mother.
Musa had been expected to travel straight out of Sfax, Tunisia to his base in Saudi Arabia right after Nigeria’s second leg victory over Libya in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, but he took the flight back to Nigeria with the squad.
In the aftermath of that decision, the media was agog with how he would end up missing his club’s Saudi Super League match this weekend, which a cross-section of Nigerian fans presumed was not a professional attitude from the attacker.
It had even been suggested that ‘family matters’ Musa cited as reason for him travelling by road from Abuja to Jos on Wednesday was to see his wife, but the fleet-footed star has now come out to state otherwise.
The former Kano Pillars, VV Venlo of Holland, CSKA Moscow of Russia and Leicester City of England star took to social media on Friday to reveal the true story.
Musa wrote: “Stayed here to be by my mother side. She was recently ill, I pray for her speedy recovery and good health. I love you mum!”
