Several months after the end of the Russia 2018 World Cup, more personal honours are still coming the way of Nigeria’s top scorer, Ahmed Musa, who has now been named the player with the biggest moment to remember during the competition.
Musa became Nigeria’s all-time World Cup scorer with his brace of goals against Iceland in a 2-0 win for the Super Eagles in their second group match, which added to two he had also scored in a 3-2 loss against Argentina at Brazil 2014.
Following his brace at Russia 2018 against the Nordic Nation, sports247.ng learnt over the past weekend that Musa has now been awarded the most memorable performance award at the Volgograd venue of this year’s World Cup.
Musa’s two strikes against Iceland gave him the edge over Harry Kane of England in the poll conducted by FIFA and voted for by fans that thronged the venue.
On the total pool, Musa won 80% of the votes, followed by Kane with 11%, while Egypt’s veteran goalkeeper, Essam Al Hadry got 7% and Jan Benarek’s performance gained 2%.
A tweet on the official FIFA World Cup handle read: “By a wide margin, you voted Ahmed Musa’s two goal performance for the Super Eagles as your favorite World Cup memory from Volgograd.”
