Multichoice, the parent company of DStv, delivered a blow to football enthusiasts by officially announcing that SuperSport channels will not be broadcasting the upcoming AFCON 2023 tournament.
The confirmation came through a statement released by the company on Wednesday, clarifying that SuperSport has not secured the rights to broadcast the highly anticipated football competition.

The statement from Multichoice read, “SuperSport channels will not transmit the tournament because the channel has not secured the rights to broadcast the tournament.”
This revelation disappointed many fans who traditionally turn to SuperSport for comprehensive coverage of major football events.
However, Multichoice assured football enthusiasts that AFCON 2023 games will still be accessible through partner broadcast stations on Free to Air (FTA) channels.
While the absence of SuperSport from the broadcast lineup is a notable development, this alternative broadcasting arrangement ensures that fans can still catch the tournament action through other available channels.
Despite the setback regarding AFCON, Multichoice expressed its ongoing commitment to providing football fans across Africa with access to a wide array of entertainment and football content on DStv and GOtv platforms.
The company emphasized that viewers can still enjoy coverage of prestigious football competitions such as the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Zambian Super League, and more.
As fans adjust to the news of SuperSport’s non-broadcast of AFCON 2023, Multichoice aims to maintain its standing as a reliable source for diverse football content, even as it explores alternative avenues to ensure viewers continue to enjoy unrivalled access to football entertainment on its platforms.
