The injury occurred during the match at the Grand Stade de Marrakech, Morocco, when Moses Simon collided with Mali goalkeeper Mamadou Samassa in the 35th minute. Subsequently, Simon was stretchered off the pitch and was ruled out of action for the remainder of the season.
Despite his impressive performance in the Super Eagles’ second-place finish at the recently concluded AFCON in Ivory Coast, Simon faces a challenging road to recovery. The 28-year-old, known for his contributions on the field, has scored three goals and provided six assists for Nantes this season.
Simon’s injury comes at a critical time as Nigeria prepares for crucial World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic on June 3rd and 10th respectively. With the rehabilitation process underway, Simon faces a fitness race to be available for selection in these important matches.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is in the process of appointing a new coach for the national team following the departure of Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro.
The NFF aims to finalize the coaching appointment before the World Cup qualifiers, ensuring stability and direction for the team as they pursue qualification for the global tournament.
As Simon begins his recovery journey, both he and the national team await further developments in their quest for success on the international stage.
