Moses Simon Named Nantes Player Of the Month For August After Stellar Return from Injury

Super Eagles winger Moses Simon has been named Nantes’ Player of the Month for August 2024, marking a triumphant return to form after a lengthy injury layoff.

The Nigerian international earned the accolade following a strong start to the Ligue 1 season, where he scored key goals for his club.

Simon secured 43% of the fan vote, finishing ahead of teammates Alban Lafont, Matthis Abline, and Nathan Zézé. His impressive performances included goals in victories against AJ Auxerre and Montpellier, helping Nantes to a solid start in the new campaign.

Nantes announced the award, saying, “You have designated Moses Simon, scorer against AJ Auxerre and on the Mosson pitch in Montpellier, as the ‘Canary of the Month’ for August 2024!”

The 28-year-old winger will officially receive his award ahead of Nantes’ home match against Stade de Reims on Sunday, September 15, 2024.

Simon’s resurgence comes after a challenging period last season, where injury sidelined him for the second half of the campaign. Before his injury, he had been in excellent form, helping Nigeria reach the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where they narrowly lost 2-1 to Ivory Coast.

Since his return, Simon has scored two goals in three league matches, playing a vital role in Nantes’ early success, including two wins and a draw. His dynamic performances are a promising sign for both club and country.
