Moses Simon Celebrates 150 Ligue 1 Appearances

One of Nigeria’s longest-serving Ligue 1 players, Moses Simon, has reached a career milestone in the French top flight this past weekend.

During FC Nantes’ 1-1 draw with Angers, Simon earned his 150th cap in Ligue 1, assisting Johann Lepenant for the team’s only goal.

This assist marked his 29th for FC Nantes, making him the club’s top contributor in this category, surpassing the record previously held by Emiliano Sala.

Simon, who initially joined Nantes on loan from Spanish side Levante in 2019, later made the move permanent, becoming a pivotal figure for La Maison Jaune.

In the 2021-22 campaign, Simon played an important role in helping Les Canaris secure the Coupe de France.

His contributions have not gone unnoticed, with the official Ligue 1 X (formerly Twitter) account celebrating his achievement, referring to him as “Indispensable.”

Throughout his Ligue 1 career with Nantes, Simon has netted 27 goals and provided 29 assists.

His impressive performance has also placed him among the top Nigerian players in Ligue 1 history, with the fifth-most appearances behind Victor Ikpeba (170), Taye Taiwo (191), Wilson Oruma (196), and John Utaka (239).

Currently, Simon leads Nantes in domestic goalscoring this season, boasting two goals and two assists.

His stellar form earned him the Player of the Month award for August.

Simon remains under contract with Nantes until 2026, continuing to be a key player for the team, which is currently fifth in the table after five matchdays.

Simon’s enduring presence in Ligue 1 and his consistent performance shows his importance to FC Nantes and his significant contribution to Nigerian representation in European football.
