Morris Atula Declares The Time Has Come For Nigeria To Celebrate Sporting Success, Pledges To Revive Wrestling

Morris Atula, one of Nigeria’s most accomplished amateur and professional wrestlers, believes the time is ripe for the nation to fully embrace and celebrate its sporting achievements.

The former Nigeria, Commonwealth, and World Wrestling Champion made this statement during a courtesy visit to the Director General (DG) of the National Sports Commission (NSC) on Thursday.

Both Atula and Olapade, the NSC DG, shared an energetic moment, including a combat sports demonstration at the NSC office located within the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

Atula, who recently moved back to Nigeria after spending four decades in Europe, was accompanied by his wife and daughter. The passionate Atula congratulated Olapade on his appointment as DG of the NSC and also commended the appointment of Malam Shehu Dikko as Chairman of the NSC.

“I cannot thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu enough for appointing capable technocrats like Malam Shehu Dikko and Hon. Bukola Olapade to oversee Nigerian sports,” Atula said.

“With the positive policies and programs they are introducing, the future of Nigerian sports looks brighter. I am eager to contribute, especially to the revival of Nigerian wrestling.”

Atula also expressed his ambition to become the next President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, outlining a detailed plan for making Nigeria the top wrestling nation in the world.

“My focus is on providing adequate training, discovering and nurturing talent, and organizing regular competitions across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of Abuja. Veterans and technocrats will play crucial roles in this process,” he shared with enthusiasm.

In response, Olapade expressed his appreciation for Atula’s visit and his readiness to support the efforts to revive Nigerian sports.
