Morocco-based handball player, Obinna Anih is singing praises for the quality of Nigeria’s coaches in the sport, and believes they have what it takes to excel at top international levels.
Soports247.ng gathered that the professional handball player, who starred in the Nigerian league and in Gabon before moving to Morocco, said the quality of the game at home is almost at the same level with what he is seeing at his new base.
Anih, though, acknowledged that the edge Morocco has over Nigeria is in terms of facilities, equipment and funding, which he says makes the players happier and eager to produce their best.
He added that club level handball in Morocco is also of a higher quality than that in Nigeria, not because the coaches are better but due to better welfare packages they have to offer their players.
Anih said: “I started playing handball in Nigeria with Benue Buffalos before leaving in 2015.
“It was not difficult for me to acclimatise at my club sides. Handball in North Africa is spectacular; I love the way they play and I want to see Nigeria play ahead of them.
“This is my second season in Kawkab Athletic Club Marrakesh of Morocco.
“I previously played professional handball in Gabon with Phoenix team. The reason why I left Gabon for Morocco was because the league was not competitive.
“Handball in Morocco is amazing but I am looking forward to return to Nigeria because the coaches in Nigeria manage players properly.
“In Morocco, you have to play according to the fans and not to the coaches. I know if the league grows, I might come back to continue playing club side handball.
“It has been a long time they called professionals to come represent Nigeria at the Africa Nation’s Cup and we were opportune to wear the colors of Nigeria.”
