Former Gombe United head coach, Mohammed Babaganru, has cited inadequate financial support as the primary reason for his resignation from the club.
Babaganru expressed frustration over the insufficient funding allocated to the team by the state government, stating that the allocated ₦12 million was insufficient to sustain the club’s operations.

In a statement addressing his decision to resign, Babaganru highlighted the challenges faced by the club in managing its activities with limited financial resources.
He emphasized that the financial constraints, including covering player salaries and match expenses, were unsustainable, leading to his resignation.
“I have indeed resigned,” Babaganru confirmed. “However, I resigned because the sole sponsors of the team were not committed to the team. There is no way you can manage a premier league club with just ₦12 million, including salaries and match expenses.”
Expressing his disappointment with the lack of improvement in the financial situation, Babaganru explained that he could no longer continue in his role under such conditions.
As a result, he chose to step down from his position and take time off with his family.
“At home with my family, just having a rest,” Babaganru stated regarding his current status. “For now, I’m not available for any club if there is anyone.”
Babaganru’s resignation sheds light on the financial challenges faced by clubs in Nigerian football and underscores the importance of adequate funding for sustainable operations.
