As part of efforts to curtail the COVID19 and to sustain the ongoing advocacy campaigns to stop the spread of the corona virus, the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports Development and the Nigerian Olympic Committee as lend their voices to the campaign for awareness to ensure everyone knows what to do against the virus.
Under the leadership of Sunday Dare, Honorable Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Gabriel Aduda, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports and Engr. Habu Gumel, president, Nigeria Olympic Committee, released a video produced Sunday Dare, Domodo Tuye and Mary Onyali, in solidarity to fight against COVID 19.
As a new way of promoting the awareness led by the finest Nigerian sports stars, both past and present, a video was launched.
Some of the stars feature are Daniel Igali – Olympic gold medalist in wrestling, Mariam Usman – Olympic bronze medalist in weightlifting, Flora Ugwunwa – paraolympic gold medalist and Blessing Okagbare – Olympic bronze medalist in athletics.
Others who made the list of those showing solidarity are Daniel Akpeyi, chinazom Nwosu – African champion in taekwando, Patrick Ekeji, Elizerbeth Osoba, Funke Oshonaike – 7 time Olympian, Enefiok Udo-Obong – Olympic gold medalist, Daniel Amokachi, Chioma Ajunwa- Nigeria’s first Olympic gold medalist, Ahmed Musa, Ese Brume, Blessing Oborududu- ten time African champion in wrestling, Aruna Quadri, Lola Aina, Jay Jay Okocha, Kingsley Okoroafor, Asisat Osoala, Lucy Ekeji, Samson Siasia, Falilat Ogunkoya, Chika Chukwumerije, Kanu Nwankwo, Maria Wophill and many others.
The awareness video did well to instruct sports fans on the basic protective measures of how to avoid being infected with the virus and how we can join hands to stop the spread of the deadly virus.

As it stands, the corona virus has affected more than a million people across the world with a death toll of 53,251. Nigeria’s case tally update as of April 3 stood at 190 according to the National Centre for Decease Control NCDC. Six new cases in Osun brought the tally to 20 with 98 in Lagos and 38 in Abuja. 20 have been discharged with two death so far.
