In continuation of his consultative meeting across the country, Minister of Youth and Sports Development Mr Sunday Dare met with Youths of the Niger Delta on Saturday in Asaba with a promise to ensure that their grievances are channelled to the Federal Government for proper action.
According to the Minister ” Government is aware of the issues raised by the youths. While some are being adressed by President Mohammadu Buhari through various youth – based programmes, others are already taken care of. What is most important is that President Buhari cares about the youths of this country.
“Everything has a process and we must be patient and allow government attend to the issues raised.
Some issues raised include lack of access to information about opportunities for the youths , bad roads, power and lopsided appointment at the Federal Executive Council .
According to one of the youths Frank Pukon who spoke on behalf of Ijaw Youth Ethnic Nationalities while commending the Minister’s efforts,
“Government must do something urgently about these needs to forestall future #ENDSARS protests.
” Those of us in the riverine areas have no acess to the internet. We need new policy to create jobs and end oil theft, degradation and joblessness .
“The Federal Government should re activate abandoned road projects and the deep sea port. Federal Maritine College should be revived.
“There should be no monopoly of refineries, Government must put our refineries back to operations so that we can enjoy peace and Progress.
Okonta Donalds said “Majority of the states are not viable. The States in the South South are producing oil. So we need to relocate the offices of the oil producing companies to the South South . There should be a review of the sharing formular of oil revenue. The people are living in abject poverty despite producing the wealth of the nation.
“Food insecurity is alarming
The Lawmakers should enact a law that would accomodate at least 40% youths in the cabinet. He must create space for the Nigerian Youth so that we can part of Government.
“Government must address the problem of power. Without power, the system canot work.
Imbalances should be adressed
The Textiles Mills must be revived instead of importing from China.
“Nigeria must be restructured in line with the promise of the Government of President Mohammadu Buhari during his campaigns
Nigeria Youth Investment Fund should be reviewed upward. 75B is too small for Nigeria Youths who constitute the larger Nigerian population
Monitoring of budget implementation committee that would ensure compliance with budget implementation should be given priority.
