Mikel Returns To Fernebahce’s Searchlight

Super Eagles’ captain, John Mikel obi could seal a deal to Fernebahce of Turkey this week, mostly because the club were first tout for a deal with him during his days at Chelsea of England.

Sports247.ng can report that Fenerbahce tried to sign Mikel prior to his transfer from Chelsea to Tianjin Teda of China, such that the the Turkish Super Lig outfit could be inclined to reopen their interest.

However, the deal this time is not at the instance of the Istanbul-based side, for which four other Nigerians – Austin Okocha, Uche Okechukwu, Emmanuel Emenike and Joseph Yobo – have played in years past.

Rather than Fenerbahce to directly reopen interest in Mikel, it was learnt that a representative of the Eagles’ captain contacted the club for negotiations, which would only be formalised if the coach lends backing.

Mikel has already terminated his contract with Teda, thereby paving the way for him to return to Europe, where he spent 13 years, first with Lyn Oslo of Norway then at Stamford Bridge with The Blues.

Mikel was the Tianjin-based club’s biggest signing in their history but is now moving on, though he had a year remaining on his contract, as he could not play regularly in the second half of the league due to injuries.
