Middlesbrough of England midfielder, John Mikel Obi has come out with strong words of advice on steps that should be taken by any player wishing to try the Golden Fleece in China.
While advocating that only players in the twilight of their careers should think about going to The Oriental Nation in the first place, the Super Eagles’ captain added that thorough research and proper checks need to be carried about by each player.
Mikel stressed that players under 30 should not venture into playing in the Chinese Super League, otherwise they could end up regretting the venture.
He, however, went on to affirm that ‘look before you leap’ should be the code to follow, as it would unwise stepping to unfamiliar terrain without first learning about what to expect.
Mikel admonished: ”It’s worth doing for a couple of years, if only to learn a different culture.
“To give yourself an experience that takes you out of your comfort zone. Do your research, check what sort of club you are going to over there.
“Do not be tempted by the money if you are young. The money makes the move tempting, we’re only human.
“Do not be tempted by the size of the cheque. If you are in the prime of your career, you should wait until you are approaching the end.”
