Middlesbough of England’s January signing, John Mikel Obi is already enjoying life at the English Championship club, and could be thinking of a contract extension at the end of his initial short-term deal.
This is the revelation of the club’s coach, Tony Pulis, who sports247.ng gathered is amazed at the depth and value Mikel has added to the team within such a short time of his arrival at The Riverside.
Mikel has excelled in his first five Championship outings, helping Boro move closer to the promotion playoff spot, with a ten points haul to the bargain since his time in their colours.
Mikel’s impact has left Boro fans singing praise for the former Lyn Oslo of Norway and Chelsea of England star, such that Pulis is already thinking seriously of keeping the Super Eagles’ captain longer than initially planned.
Pulis believes Mikel has done enough to deserve a contract extension and stay beyond this summer, in recognition of the star’s impressive five weeks for the Rio 2016 Olympics bronze medalist.
In spite of renewed interest in Mikel from league rivals, Aston Villa, Pulis has hinted that the midfield star will stay with Boro, whether they are promoted or not to the English Premier League.
Pul;is added: ”John has come in and done tremendously well for us and he is enjoying his football. I think he is enjoying the club too, the set-up, the feel around the squad and what we are trying to do here.
”I don’t think the key to keeping John is going up. I think the key is to show him the potential the club has. I think the secret to keeping John at the end of the season is to convince him this is a club going in the right direction.”
