Coming on the heels of the successful Savannah Conference qualifiers of the Zenith Women’s Basketball League, Benin City will be agog as the Atlantic Conference qualifiers of the league tips off Thursday, June 2, 2023, at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium.
According to the Secretary-General of NBBF, Peter Njoku, the games are expected to be played at a very high level, in terms of quality, officiating, and of course, with games being played in line with global best practices, as foreign players are expected to provide clearance from FIBA, if they have played outside Nigeria in 2023.
At the draws for the qualifiers held Wednesday evening, MFM and First Bank Female Basketball teams were seeded to lead groups A and B, that comprised MFM, Delta Force, Sunshine Angels, Bayelsa Queens and Bini Queens in group A, while First Bank, IGP Queens, Ekiti Angels, First Deep Water, Dolphins and Kwara Falcons would do battle in group B.
In the opening match MFM would face off with Bayelsa Queens, as Kwara Falcons and IGP Queens would play the second game of the day. Other matches are Sunshine Angels squaring it up against Delta Force; Deepwater against First Bank, and Ekiti Angels versus Dolphins, while Bini Queens drew bye for tomorrow games.
Meanwhile, it was revealed that the top 4 teams from each group will qualify from the Atlantic Conference for the Elite final where they will be joined by 8 other teams from Savannah conference.
