A Lagos-based semi-professional club, Messiah Football Club of Ikeja have commenced preparation for this year’s Lagos State Challenge Cup.
In order to fortify the team ahead of the Lagos state challenge cup, Messiah management have contacted the service of former COD United coach, Olayinka Tunde Olaniyi who would handle the club with immediate effect.
Messiah team manager, Deji Beecroft confirmed that more than 25 players resumed the first-day training session and more young players would be injected into the team ahead of Lagos FA Cup. He boasted that the club would be more formidable and strong as they have lined up tough friendly matches before the commencement of the Lagos FA Cup.
“Let me officially announce that we have employed the service of Coach Olayinka Olaniyi Tunde who would take over the team henceforth. Tunde is a good and vibrant coach who would turn things around in the club. The players are happy to work with him and they are ready to cooperate with him. Although we have not unveiled him we are planning to do that soonest for our fans to see in Nigeria and outside the country. Messiah FC are a big club and we want to try as much as possible to go far in this year’s Lagos FA Cup and other high-profile football competitions. I wish the new coach and players’ best of luck as they are preparing for the state challenge cup,” he said.
Meanwhile, Messiah FC would face the litmus test as they face Sodiq and his friends in a friendly match scheduled for tomorrow at Anglican pry school, Idi- Agbon, College Road, Ifako- Ijaiye. Sodiq, a former Messiah player is currently playing in FC Alania, a division one club in Russia. Sodiq said seven of his friends who are playing outside Nigeria would join him on the field of play to confront Messiah FC in a friendly match that promises to be tough.
