Merry Christmas And Thanks For Your Partnership, Support And Development – WABA President

Hon. Ky. Col. Onesmo A.M. Ngowi President and Chair of the Board WABA has sent out a Christmas and thank you message to all boxing lovers in Africa and the world at large in a statement forwarded to Sports247 and published below;

2020 will be remembered as the darkest year for the sport of boxing. But, despite this, it is fair to say only boxing has managed to unite many families, friends, rivals e.t.c to wake up in the middle of the night in lockdowns to watch previous fights featuring great boxers while keeping SAFE.

Boxing continued to inspire, appeal, and reach many more stakeholders in different ways and became light at the end of the tunnel to many stakeholders.

Over the past year, WABA was focusing to help many boxers to pursue their boxing careers only to be distracted by Covid-19. Our hope is that 2021 will be a different year for boxing. Over the past year, WABA has covered quite aground in the promotion of its boxing BRAND but more ground needs to be covered so as to assure the future of the boys and girls in the ring.

Surely, the sport of boxing has become an industry-leading other sport.

In many countries, boxing still faces an evil of sponsorship that makes many upcoming promoters unable to promote boxing tournaments. More efforts need to be done to encourage governments and corporate sectors to get more involved in supporting boxing.

WABA progression path is clearly defined to enable boxers to be recognized and ranked by many sanction bodies and we believe that the trend will benefit more boxers in the next year.

All these achievements are thanks to your diligence, steadfastness, and support of commissioners, managers, promoters, administrators, agents, matchmakers, fans, and stakeholders.

We shall continue to update the public about the activities of WABA in your area and believe that such information will help many boxing stakeholders to know more about the sport of boxing.

I would also like to take this opportunity to apologize to everyone if, in the course of my administration, I have crossed paths or issued statements that offended and made anyone uncomfortable. I, therefore, thank you deeply for your love and support of the sport of boxing and the WABA in particular.

I would also like to say special “THANKS” to the Ringside Gym Global of Dubai under my friends Zack Taumafai and Payam Honari for their absolutely fantastic hospitality and support to the WABA & Ringside Gym Global co-ordinated basic level ring officials training seminar at the Ringside Gym Global from November 16th to 18th and the Rampage Tournament at the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel in Dubai November 20, 2020.
