The Super Eagles goalkeeping department has faced challenges since the departure of Vincent Enyeama, with recent concerns about Francis Uzoho’s form. However, a new face has emerged in the form of Stanley Nwabali, who is making waves as the potential solution to Nigeria’s goalkeeping woes.
Stanley Nwabali, born on June 10, 1996, gained attention when he joined Nigeria’s second-division side, Go Round FC, in 2019.

His impressive performances caught the eye, leading to a move to Enyimba in 2020. Nwabali’s journey continued, taking him to South Africa, where he currently plays for Chippa United.
In the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire, Nwabali, based in South Africa, received a surprise call-up to the Super Eagles squad by coach Jose Peseiro.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper made the 25-man list and featured in the team’s opener against Equatorial Guinea, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Despite the result, Nwabali displayed confidence and composure in goal.
Nwabali’s impressive form extends beyond his national team duties. In his second season with Chippa United, he has established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper, keeping seven clean sheets in the South Africa Premier League.
His stellar performances have attracted interest from clubs like Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa and Royale Union Saint-Galloise in Belgium, among others.
The Nigerian goalkeeper earned his first cap for the Super Eagles in an international friendly against Mexico in the United States in 2021, where the Chan Eagles suffered a 4-0 defeat.
As Stanley Nwabali’s star continues to rise, Nigerian football enthusiasts are hopeful that he can provide the stability needed in the goalkeeping department, offering a promising future for the Super Eagles.
