The invincibility of Mees Palace Football Academy in this football tournament was torn to shred over the weekend as they suffered their first loss since the academy and the league came into existence in 2017, losing 1-2 to Spartans Football Academy.
Although the Blue Panthers as they are fondly called had already qualified to the knockout round of 16 before the said encounter, it came as a rude shock to the faithful of this league that this team loaded with some very good boys will fall to Spartans FA, not counted amongst threats to Mees Palace invincibility on the pitch of play.
After scoring a hattrick in his first match against Jazzy Stars FA, Jimmy Daniels made it seven goals in just two matches as he put four past Holy Ghost FA to sit at the top of the highest goals scorers chat thus far in the Under-15 category, with Rayfield Selected cruising to a 5-1 win over erstwhile table toppers in Group D, Holy Ghost FA.
With the last group matches played over the weekend in the Under-15 category of the 2020 Jos Chillin Football Tournament, boys have finally been separated from the toddlers as the round of 16 teams’ qualifiers have finally emerged. They include:
St. Monica Academy, Nike Boyz, Rayfield Selected, Holy Ghost Academy, Elkanemi FA, Samba Boys, Spartans fa, City rollers, Flying Shooters, Bwin cf, Pepsi Academy, Star Boys, Young Stars, St. Johns college, Galatians Fa, and the defending champions, Mees Palace Football Academy.
In the under-13 category, only the duo of defending champions, Mees Palace Football Academy and Jazzy Stars Football Academy are yet to drop a point in their various groups, as they won their third match in a row over the weekend to have a hundred percent perfect runs thus far, hence, they have a foot already in the quarter-finals of this category.
