In a gripping showdown on Sunday, Ghana Premier League champions Medeama secured a narrow 1-0 win over debutants Remo Stars in the first leg of the CAF Champions League (CCL) qualifying round.

The clash unfolded at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium, with the visiting side struggling to adapt to both a challenging pitch and their maiden CCL appearance.
From the initial whistle, both squads engaged in a spirited exchange of opportunities, showcasing their determination to seize control of the match.
Remo Stars initiated their offensive with a floated free kick, yet Dele Ojo’s header found the goalkeeper’s grasp. Medeama, quick to retaliate, gained the upper hand in the 22nd minute. Jonathan Sowah’s shot, although deflected, found the back of the net, giving the hosts a crucial lead.
Throughout the first half, Medeama created numerous chances but was unable to bolster their advantage before the halftime whistle blew.
As the second half commenced, Remo Stars introduced two alterations to their lineup in a bid to rejuvenate their efforts. However, their endeavors were marred by a missed opportunity just three minutes into the half, as Sikiru Alimi’s strike veered wide of the mark.

Despite their relentless pursuit of an equalizer, Remo Stars failed to breach Medeama’s defense, leaving the score line unaltered. Although the visitors managed to stave off further goals, their resolve was tested by Medeama’s continued dominance.
With the final whistle echoing across the stadium, Medeama emerged triumphant with a 1-0 lead. Remo Stars, however, remained resolute and now turn their focus towards the second leg of the qualifying round, scheduled for Sunday, August 27.
