A clarion call has been sent out to football stakeholders all over the country to rally in support of Nigeria’s match commissioners.
Sports247 was present live when the declaration was made by the chairman of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) match commissioners appointment committee, Alhaji Babagana Kalli.
Kalli noted that match commissioners play a vital role in football issues, but opined that they are not getting the recognition they deserve.
The selection committee boss made these assertions during his welcome address at a brainstorming event organised to introduce the tenets and expectations of being a match commissioner.
Kalli expatiated, “We as a committee are also pleased to have such distinguished and advanced members. The theme of this seminar is Match Commissioning And The Challenges Of Match Reporting.
Match commissioning is a vital process for ensuring efficiency, with firm and reliable decisions, during matches. So, it is the responsibility of all stakeholders involved to let us join forces and work together against the challenges and for the growth of our leagues.”
He further buttressed the importance of match commissioners in football, but posited that the vocation has not received commensurate attention and the respect it deserves.
“Despite its importance, match commissioners face numerous challenges. (The challenges) demand attention and collaborative solutions from the NFF, NPFL, all match commissioners and the actors, that is, you participants from the Nigerian Premier League.
Let it show in training and development of the workforce environment to create a focus for each match day, just as it is for a flash report,” Kalli concluded.
