The Osun State Police Command on Tuesday arraigned a 22-year-old man, Damilola Daramola before Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife for allegedly playing football bet on credit.
Daramola was dragged before the court on one count of breach of peace after he failed to pay for a football bet he staked.
The prosecutor, Asp Sunday Osanyintuyi alleged that Daramola on Feb 21, 2021, at Olonade Area, Ile-Ife conducted himself in a manner that can cause a breach of public peace by playing a football bet game worth N12,700 from one Akindele Mercy without payment.
ASP Osanyintuyi noted that the offence committed is contrary to and punishable under section 249 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
However, Daramola pleaded not guilty to the offence preferred against him by the police.
Counsel for the defendant, Mr. Unah Sunday made an oral bail application for his client in most liberal terms assuring the court to provide reliable surety(ies).
The presiding magistrate, Mr. Ajala Adebayo admitted the defendant to bail with the sum of N25,000 with one surety.
He, therefore, adjourned the case to March 22, 2021, for a hearing.
