The Nigerian U-19 Women’s cricket team will continue their preparations for the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Malaysia against Scotland today, Sports247 reports.
The Nigerian team will wrap up their preparations with Scotland friendly as they are ready to begin their World Cup journey on this Weekend against Samoa.
The team lost to Pakistan by 11-run in their opening warm-up match for the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Malaysia on Monday.
Batting first, Pakistan posted a modest total of 105 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
Fatima Khan emerged as the top scorer, contributing a solid 28 runs from 39 balls. Ravel Farhan provided crucial support with 23 runs off 37 balls.
Other notable contributors included Zofshan Ayaz (13 runs), Manahel (10 runs) and Areesha Ansari (7 runs). Komal Khan scored 4, while Tayyaba Imdad and Maham Anis remained unbeaten with 2 and 3 runs respectively.
In response, Nigeria’s team was restricted to 94 runs for 6 wickets. Qara Al-Ain was particularly impressive, taking 2 wickets while conceding just 9 runs in her 4-over spell.
The Junior Female Yellow Greens, will test their might once again against Scotland friendly at the Royal Selangor Club, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia , 7:30 am local time.
Scotland were also preparing for the World Cup and are playing their second preparatory game.
The Scottish lost their first preparatory game in Malaysia to India by 119 runs.
Meanwhile, the captain of the Nigerian team Lucky Piety has restated Nigeria’s mission to the World Cup and restated the team’s commitment to make Nigeria proud and not just to participate.
“This is the World Cup, it’s no longer the qualifiers. In our own way, we have prepared and the federation has made sure we are ready. We are combining all of these attitudes to bring pride to Nigeria.” She told the ICC Media Zone.
The Yellow Greens will make their World Cup debut on Saturday, 18 January 2025 against Samoa in group C at the Borneo Cricket Ground, Kuching, Sarawak in Malaysia.
The team will then face New Zealand in their second game of the tournament on Monday, January 20 before squaring up against South Africa on Wednesday January 22 2025 to round up their group matches.
