Makinwa Pays Lazio Officials Surprise Visit At Rome Base

Former Super Eagles striker, Stephen Ayodele Makinwa (Tiger of Lagos) was a surprise August visitor at the home ground of SS Lazio in Rome, Italy, as he turned up to say hello to the officials and players.

Sports247.ng reports that Makinwa, who played for 10 different Italian clubs before hanging his boots five years ago, was a key members of Lazio’s squad from 2006 to 2012, thereby marking his longest stay at any club he played for during a prestigious career in The Land of The Azzurri.

After earlier stints at Genoa, Atalanta and Palermo, Makinwa moved to Lazio in the summer of 2006 for €3.3m, in a co-ownership deal.

The deal saw him reunite with his former coach at Atalanta, Delio Rossi and he was contracted fully on five-year contract in June 2007, following auction between La Biancocelesti and Palermo for another €3.3m.

Makinwa got his first experience of the UEFA Champions League in the 2007/08 season, but failed to score, as Lazio crashed in the group stage.

Lazio sent him on loan to Reggina, whose sister club, AC Regianna were his first club in Italy, then loaned him to Colegniano in 2001, but he spent the 2008/09 season with just four substitute appearances.

On January 22, 2009, Makinwa signed for Chievo Verona until the end of the season, in a loan deal worth €250,000, with an option of making the move permanent.

However, Chievo decided not to sign him and Makinwa returned to Lazio for the 2009/10 season, before moving to Larissa in Greece, Carrarese in Italy as well as Beijing Baxy in China and Gorica in Slovenia.
