With Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr looking to boost his team ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations and the tactician on the lookout for some of the best Nigerian talents across the world, Former Nigerian international Victor Agali has stated that the Nigeria national team doesn’t need to run after every foreign born players of Nigerian descents ahead of the team’s preparation for the 2019 AFCON.
Agali who played 12 times for the national team scoring five times believes that what the Eagles handlers need is to seek players that will add value to the team and the thought of placing preference on where they were born should not be a criteria. “I love the way the Eagles set up is now but definitely ahead of the nations cup more players will be brought in to be tested and a lot of Nigerian players born abroad are been circled around on social media.”
They are all Nigerians and they deserve to play for their fatherland if they are good enough and decide to do so but the team managers need to look at players that will add value to the team both short and long term. If those players are playing in the Nigerian league they should be called and if they are abroad so be it.”
The former Schalke 04 forward also revealed to Sports247.ng saying the Eagles handler should simply look out for players that has something to offer the team in an area of need rather than simply going after every foreign born players of Nigeria descent. “The coach also knows some of the department that needs strengthening. He should bring players into those departments to create more competition.”
