Majekodunmi Motivates Flying Eagles Ahead Of WAFU-B U20 Tournament

The Chairman of the Youth Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi, visited the camp of the Flying Eagles on Sunday in Ikenne to offer words of encouragement as they prepare for the WAFU-B U20 tournament.

This competition will serve as a crucial qualifier for the U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), a step towards earning a ticket to the FIFA U20 World Cup.

“I know that you guys are surely ready for the challenge ahead,” Majekodunmi said. “You need to remain focused and be determined because the ticket is a must for us. It has been long since Nigeria qualified for the World Cup at the Under-20 level, but first, you must make history by securing qualification for AFCON. I urge you to believe in yourselves, believe in your coach, and believe in your country. You have what it takes to make Nigeria proud.”

Majekodunmi, who also chairs the Ogun State Football Association and is a member of the NFF Executive Board, emphasized the importance of this tournament as a stepping stone towards greater success, with AFCON qualification being their immediate focus.

The Flying Eagles, defending champions of the WAFU-B tournament, are drawn in Group B alongside Côte d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso. Their opening match will be against Burkina Faso on Friday, October 18, at the Municipal Stadium in Lome, with kickoff set for 3 p.m. local time.

As Nigeria looks to reclaim its dominance in youth football, the Flying Eagles are determined to first secure their spot at the U20 AFCON before turning their attention to the World Cup. Majekodunmi’s visit has inspired the players, and with strong leadership and determination, the team is expected to rise to the challenge.
