The Nationwide League One (NLO) Champion of Champions trophy is up for grabs on Saturday as Madiba FC of Lagos and Mailantarki Care of the FCT are through to the final fixed for the Legacy Pitch, after going top of their groups.
After five days of beautiful football displays and some fantastic goals scored by the eight teams, it’s now down to Madiba FC, who were unbeaten en route to the play-off final with 7 points, and Mailantarki Care who edged out FC Ebedei on a plus three goal difference, despite both teams garnering 6 points each after three group matches.
The group phase of the 2022 NLO play-off lived up to the billing as both Madiba and Mailantarki Care needed their last group games to secure their qualification to the epic final.
Madiba who had secured 6points going into their final game only needed to avoid defeat against Aspire FC.
That the Oshodi based team did as they shared the spoils with Anambra-based Aspire FC.
It was tough for Mailantarki Care, who having seen FC Ebedei go top after the victory against Smart City, needed goals from Auwal Abba, Chimezie Gabriel and Miko Dalha to punish a wasteful Kun Khalifa side, who ended their Super 8 campaign with a point.
In the other group matches, FC Ebedei outsmart Smart City with Isa Musa Abubakar scoring the first of the game in the opening minute of the second half and providing an assist for Musliu Odekunle to finish off in the 81st minute after Wasiu Hakeem had got the equaliser in the 79th minute.
After finishing the play-off with 6points after they gunned down JNR Danburam 2-1 in their final game, Police Baretta were left to rue their none qualification to the finale, after the loss to Madiba FC in their second Group A match.
