Alhaji Sanni Lulu, a former egg-head of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has thrown his weight towards a successful hosting of the 8th edition of the Ogunjobi Gold Cup after he donated plaques for Most Valuable Player and Highest Goal Scorer.
The Kwara State Sports Complex in Ilorin will host the country’s first pre-season mini league from Wednesday November 11 through Friday November 20, 2020.
According to Lulu: “The Ogunjobi Gold Cup has proven to be the best platform for teams in the three tiers of our domestic league to prepare their squad for the new season.
“Good thinking by the organisers to name it after late Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi, a former Secretary-General of the NFF and also a football icon. We all know how he contributed to the growth of the beautiful game in Nigeria as a player and administrator.
“So in my little way, I have donated plaques that will be given to the tourney’s MVP and Top Scorer as a way to rewarding football excellence.”
However, Secretary Osun State Football Association, Abayomi Amoo have also contributed to the success of this year’s edition after he made available a plaque to reward the goalkeeper who displays outstanding qualities in the tournament.
General Coordinator of the nation’s prestigious pre-season tournament, Tunde Shamsudeen thanked both Lulu and Amoo for their gesture.
CAF Champions League flag bearers, Enyimba with defending champions, Niger Tornadoes, Kwara United and Remo Stars are part of the 10 teams that will lock horns in the 10 days soccer fiesta.
Others are ABS FC, FC Ebedei and debutants Gombe United, Ekiti United, Sokoto United and 36 Lions.
Meanwhile, all games will be hosted in compliance with laid down protocols of the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) and Kwara State Health Ministry.
