LSSC Sports Fiesta: Team Strength, Commitment Top Medals Table

As the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) End-of-year Sports Fiesta enters day-3 , Team Strength and Commitment are not resting on their oars as they prepare for another interesting grand finale today, maintaining good positions on the medals table.

The 2023 Sports Fiesta tagged “STRONGER2GETHER” has been gathering momentum, which begins with the medical outreach for members of staff on Monday, couple with the healthy competition among the themselves in different sporting activities.

In the football event, it was team Commitment that carried the day following their 2-0 win over team Strength in an encounter that lasted 15 minutes in three 5-minute. Team Strength showed their power in the traditional game (Abula) playing 1-1 with their arch rivals Commitment in the first two sets before the yellow side won 2-1 in the third set.

Tug O’ War is another interesting game that is drawing crowd with spectators cheering them up. Team Strength and Unity will file it out on the floor today for the final contest.

Another mouth watering final is in the volleyball between Team Strength and Commitment, while the third place team will also be decided with team Peace and Unity getting ready.

As it stands Team Strength garnared 4 gold, 6 silver and 2 bronze medals; Team Commitment 4 gold, 4 silver and 7 bronze medals; Team Unity 4 gold , 4 Silver and 5 bronze medals, and Team Peace 2 gold , 1 silver and 4 bronze medals.

While reacting to the development, the Director Sports Development Nunayon Travih, posited that the essence of the Sports Fiesta is to bring sports officers together to celebrate, bond and compete healthily among themselves.

He also added that sports officers must practice what they are preaching and feel what the athletes are feeling and impacts of competing in championships.

Director School Sports Department, Dr. Oluyomi Oluwasanmi reiterated that the values preaching out is to be a master in one’s discipline.

“This is a platform created whereby we know ourselves better and do things together, which will now dove tail into our day to day lives activities for productivity”.

Dr. Oluwsanmi explained that prior to the end-of-year sports Fiesta, officers have been engaging in aerobics which is one of the initiates of the sports commission to keep members of staff fit and to be conscious of their health status.
