Lekan Fatodu, Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, graced the grand finale of the 2025 Jagaban Football Championship on Thursday at the Legacy Pitch of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

The tournament, organized in honor of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saw intense competition among eight teams over four days.
In a thrilling final, Ilorin-based SGFC faced off against 36 Lion FC. After a goalless draw in regulation time, SGFC emerged victorious with a 5-4 win in the penalty shootout, claiming the coveted Jagaban Cup trophy.
As part of his commitment to grassroots football development, Fatodu made a generous donation of ₦200,000 to the winning team, SGFC.
Since his appointment in early 2024, Fatodu has played a key role in revitalizing the sports sector in Lagos State, focusing on talent development and increased support for local competitions.
Chief Convener of the championship, Hajji Gafar Liameed, who also serves as the Chairman of the Lagos State Football Association, expressed his satisfaction with the high level of competition and discipline displayed by all participating teams.
He reassured stakeholders that plans are underway to expand the tournament in future editions while maintaining its current format.
“This championship embodies the values of President Bola Tinubu—discipline, high moral standards, and youth empowerment through football,” Liameed said.
A total of 14 matches were played from the group stage to the finals, with an impressive 38 goals scored throughout the tournament.
The event further cemented its reputation as one of the most anticipated grassroots football championships in Nigeria.
