LSSC Begins End-of-the Year Sports Fiesta With Medical Outreach

As Part of the activities lined-up for the celebration of the end of the year 2023 tagged “End-of-year Sports Fiesta”, the management of the Lagos State Sports Commission, LSSC, embarked on a medical outreach to assess the level of general well-being of its members of staff for optimal performance.

Officers were examined in a series of medical screening including height rate, weight balance, blood pressure, random blood sugar and a dental check.

The rationale behind the medical exercise is to increase the awareness of maintaining a good healthy lifestyle which has been the mantra of the sports commission and in preparation for the end of the year fiesta Games.

While reacting to the exercise, the Director General, Lagos State Sports Commission, Oluwatoyin Gafaar disclosed that the medical outreach is important in terms of keeping officers fit and to be aware of their medical conditions.

He said dental check was also carried out to assess the level of their dental health as the face of the sports commission.

“What we are doing is just a simple medical check up to know the state of our hearts and dental conditions. We want to prepare ourselves and start from here to know our status”.

According to the Head of the Sports Medicine Directorate, LSSC, Adebukola Bojuwoye said they engaged in pre-participation screening which involves the height rate, blood pressure, random blood sugar, dental check amongst others.

“We need to take their data before going into activities. And if there are situations whereby they can’t participate we are in the best position to stop them”.

Bojuwoye emphasized on the importance of regular exercise as a factor that can help in reducing blood pressure and blood sugar.

To the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on sports, Damilare Orimoloye, also reiterated that the medical outreach is a good initiative from the sports commission to checkmate the mental state of officers in order to be conscious of their health status.

The event with the hash tag “STRONGER2GETHER” is a source of unity and an avenue for staff of the commission to come together under various teams to compete healthily, fairly and celebrate the long work relationship.

Participants were divided into four groups via ballot named team commitment,Unity, Peace and Strength with appointed patrons and matrons including the competition director.
