Tajudeen Disu, ex-international football icon with a decorated career has brought a breath of fresh air to the Lagos State Football Association as its Technical Director.
In an exclusive interview with SPORTS247.NG, Disu shared his insights on the recently concluded Lagos Football Association preseason tournament and his vision for resurrecting the glory days of Lagos football.
Disu began by commending the efforts of the Lagos State Football Association under the leadership of Hon. Fouad Oki, saying, “I think it’s not bad anyway, at least for a start. And then I think I applaud it and I thank the leadership of the FA for making this happen. And I will tell you that it is the beginning of good things coming back to Lagos State Football.”
He nostalgically reminisced about the days when football was a monumental spectacle in Lagos State, emphasizing the need to revive that passion and fervor among the fans. Disu acknowledged that over the years, the allure of football in Lagos had dwindled, but he was resolute in his commitment to turn the tide.
“With the new FA on the ground,” Disu affirmed, “I think we’ll do our best to make sure all the lost glories are brought back and make sure we do the right thing for the people, especially for the fans to start coming back to the stadium.”
Expressing his concern about the dwindling attendance at football matches in Lagos, Disu passionately remarked, “It’s unfortunate. Look at today, I entered the stadium today and we’re talking about the pre-season finals. Hardly you can, hardly you see 100 people watching the game or even 60. It’s uncalled for.”

Disu’s unwavering optimism shines through as he believes that substantial steps must be taken to reignite the passion for football in Lagos. He continued, “I think something has to be done drastically to make sure the lost glories are brought back to Lagos, and Lagos starts getting back all those goodies.”
In conclusion, Disu expressed his faith in the leadership of the Lagos State Football Association and its Chairman, assuring, “I’m sure, you know, with the leadership of the Hon. Fouad Oki, I think we will get it right. We will do it. We just started, and then we’ll get there.”
As Lagos football enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the resurgence of their beloved sport, Tajudeen Disu’s words serve as a beacon of hope, promising a brighter future for Lagos State Football, one that recaptures the glory and excitement of years gone by.
