Despite joining the club just two months ago, Olamilekan has quickly become an integral part of their success story.
In an emotional reflection on the tournament, Olamilekan expressed his happiness and determination to achieve success wherever he goes. He stated, “I am very happy and emotional at the moment. I am the kind of person that wins cups. So everywhere I go and with every team I play for, we must come out victorious.
The start of the preseason was challenging due to some initial setbacks, but we overcame those obstacles and emerged as champions. I genuinely love this achievement, and I must commend the organizers for their excellent handling of the tournament from start to finish.”
Analyzing Trade Safe FC’s performance during the tournament, Olamilekan acknowledged that they faced difficulties, especially in their early matches. However, he emphasized the team’s resilience and growth as the tournament progressed. He said, “We performed admirably. While there were some matches where we faced stress and challenges, particularly related to travel, we improved after our initial two games and put in extra effort to reach the final.”
Reflecting on the intense final match against Ikorodu City, Olamilekan admitted to feeling nervous during the decisive penalty shootout. However, with the encouragement of his captain and a silent plea to God, he managed to score a crucial penalty. He shared, “It was a tough match, and I felt scared, as did every other player during the penalty shootout. When it was my turn to take a kick, I was nervous and stepped back. My captain encouraged me, reminding me that I had scored free kicks before. I was uncertain, not wanting to let my team down, so I summoned courage and silently asked for help from God. Thankfully, the ball hit the back of the net.”
Elated about their victory, Olamilekan expressed his joy and pride in triumphing over a formidable opponent. He emphasized the challenges of playing against a tough team and emerging as champions.
Looking ahead, Olamilekan shared his ambitions to play at a higher level, citing Lukaku as his role model. He aspires to reach the standards set by the renowned footballer. He concluded, “I look up to Lukaku and aim to reach his level. I believe in my abilities, and with continuous effort, hard work, and improvement in every aspect of my game, I am confident that I will get there. This year holds great promise for me, and I am determined to make it happen.”
