LORD’S TAVERNERS TO SUPPORT GRASSROOTS CRICKET AND OTHER SPORTS IN NIGERIA

Lord’s Taverners a UK based sports for change NGO would work with CSED (Community Sport and Educational Development) in promoting the development of cricket and some other sports at the grassroots level in Nigeria.

Donations to Govt secondary school Asaba

This uplifting message from Dave Pemberton (Project Manager) of Lord’s Taverners was delivered by Edema Fuludu (CSED National Coordinator) during the presentation of freely donated cricket kits and equipment (bats, balls, head gear, jerseys, canvass, gloves cricket shoes, practice balls, wicket keeping pads, shirts and trousers) to the students of Government Day Secondary School, Asaba.

Edema Fuludu advised the very delighted students and staff of the school that Lord’s Taverners is the biggest cricket charity in the UK and their good work of supporting schools, cricket clubs and cricket associations is carried out all over the world.

Lord’s Taverners major goal is to make sports accessible to the children of the less privileged who ordinarily would not be able to purchase some expensive equipment that will enable them to take part in some sports. Edema Fuludu stated that the management of Lord’s Taverners recently donated sports equipment weighing more than 450 kilogrammes to CSED for free onward distribution to some selected schools in the Niger Delta area.

Furthermore, Edema Fuludu remarked that the last of these cricket kits and equipment would be donated to the students of Army Day Secondary School 1 Army Barracks Effurun. However, the netball training kits will be distributed to selected girls secondary schools at a later date, as part of the re-introduction of netball to secondary schools in Nigeria.

Finally, Edema Fuludu stated that since the Management of Lord’s Taverners are pleased with the way CSED handled the free distribution of the donated kits and equipment; Lord’s Taverners would be keen to send another consignment of free sports kits and equipment to selected secondary schools in the Niger Delta area. The Management and students of Government Model Secondary School (Asaba) thanked Lord’s Taverners for their generosity and urged the students who will make use of the donated equipment to always put in their best in training and in competitive matches.

In her response, the Principal of Government Day Secondary School Asaba Mrs C.K Oragbuna said this is an auspicious occasion for the school’s management and students. She thanked Lords Taverners for the donations as well as CSED the link for the items. She was accompanied by the school games mistress Mrs P. I Ezeanah, the cricket coach and the Head coach Delta State Cricket Association Mr. Anthony Enuma.
