Lookman’s triumph, which took place at the prestigious awards ceremony in Marrakech, Morocco, was celebrated alongside other Nigerian victories, including Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie being named Goalkeeper of the Year and the Super Falcons winning Women’s Team of the Year.
Despite his demanding schedule, Hon. Olopade attended the event in person to support the 27-year-old star. Reflecting on the evening’s success, he praised Lookman’s exceptional talent and the broader achievements of Nigerian football.
“It was a good night for Nigerian football in general, with our male and female players winning individual awards and the women’s national team also winning the Best Women’s Team of the Year,” he remarked.
Olopade further described Lookman’s win as a testament to his hard work, consistency, and the immense potential of Nigerian athletes on the global stage. He also lauded Nnadozie’s feat, emphasizing its role in inspiring more women’s participation in sports.
“These wins are a vital boost to morale and serve as an inspiration for a new generation of athletes,” Olopade said, adding that such accomplishments align with the Commission’s renewed focus on sports development and inclusivity under the current administration.
