Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) top scorer, Junior Lokosa has been officially received at Esperance of Tunisia, as the African champions put the seal on a two-and-half-year with the striker.
Sports247.ng reports that the deal, which takes Lokosa to Esperance from Kano Pillars, was formally announced Monday afternoon by the Tunis-based side, who stated that they were glad to welcome the star.
This comes after the 25-year-old former First Bank FC of Lagos star hit 19 goals in 21 league matches for Kano Pillars and helped them reach the Federation Cup final, which they lost on penalties against Rangers.
Lokosa, who is billed to be presented to the fans when Esperance take on US Ben Guerdane on Tuesday, follows The Blood & Gold club’s long list of Nigerians who have played for the squad over the years.
Among those Lokosa will now hope to outshine as Esperance’s array of Nigerian players and Julius Efosa Aghahowa, Michael Eneramo, Gabriel Okolosi and Garba ‘Chindo’ Lawal.
The attacker narrowly missed out on Nigeria’s party to the World Cup in Russia after initially making the 30-man provisional list but made his Super Eagles debut against DR Congo in May last year.
Though Lokosa previously failed to get any deal after trials in Bulgaria, Norway and China, he will now aim for top marks with Esperance, who drew their opening match in the CAF Champions League away at Horoya of Guinea, and hope the new arrival will click in his first league fixture.
Fortunately for Lokosa, it is a home game against Platinum, and the all-action attacker, who was first capped by the Super Eagles in a friendly against DR Congo before the World Cup in Russia, will love to shine.
Esperance heralded his arrival: “It’s done! The striker Junior Lokosa has signed a two and a half-year contract with Esperance. Welcome boy!”
