Lobi Stars of Makurdi skipper, Cletus Itodo has declared that his side will overcome the formidable tactics of their hosts, Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, in their next match of the CAF Champions League.
Itodo admitted it will not be an easy game, as he noted that his side will be away to a team that are very strong both tactically and technically.
However, in casting his mind ahead of the fixture in Nelson Mandela’s country this week, sports247.ng reports that Itodo is staying upbeat for a historic away result, as he says Lobi Stars are determined to win.
Itodo added that The Middle Belt outfit learnt big lessons from their defeats by ASEC Mimosas of Cote d’Ivoire and Wydad Casablanca of Morocco, as well as the recent slump Rangers of Enugu had against Etoile du Sahel in the CAF Confederation Cup.
He disclosed that all those results have given the Nigerian champions ideas about how to hold their own against Sundowns, and believes his side will be able to withstand anything The Brazilians bring out against them and return to Makurdi with their heads held high up.
The 35-year-old ex-Sunshine Stars of Akure and Shooting Stars of Ibadan player said he and his colleagues from the Nigerian champions will give everything to have to ensure they do not lose in The Rainbow Nation.
Itodo stated: “We tried our best against Wydad Casablanca but they were the lucky team the last time.
“We are going to bounce back. We need to readjust our strategy and I’m still very confident we can go all the way in this competition.”
