Lobi Stars Trail ASEC On Head-to-head Rule

Lobi Stars of Makurdi will have to redouble their efforts in their last two matches of the CAF Champions League, as they remain bottom of their group with four points and, though they have better goals difference than ASEC Mimosas of Cote d’Ivoire, the Ivoriens are third on head-to-head with the Nigerian champions.

 

Sports247.ng learnt that, haven beaten Lobi Stars 1-0 in their second group match of the series, ASEC head into their crucial fifth match together atop the Middle Belt side, who surprisingly drew goalless away to Wydad Casablanca of Morocco on Tuesday.

 

That keeps Lobi Stars with four points, two goals for and three against (-1), while ASEC have four points with four goals for and eight against (-4), which should have placed the Nigerians atop the Ivoriens on the log.

 

With two games remaining in the group phase, Lobi Stars will aim to consolidate on their barren draw in Morocco, especially as they lost to the same team during the first leg at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.

Lobi Stars will enter their home clash with ASEC and away to Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa need to win both games, in order to build on their current haul of four points from four games.

The Makurdi-based side are bottom of Group A, tied with ASEC, who also played goalless at home with Sundowns on Tuesday.

Sundowns and Wydad both have seven points, but the South Africans are also top the group on head-to-head with the Moroccans.

Wydad’s next match, away to ASEC will be crucial for the Ivorians who will absolutely have to win to stay in the race for qualification, while Lobi Stars will play away to Sundowns, with victory in their sight as well.
