Danish table tennis player Anders Lind has described his win over Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri at the China Smash as “difficult,” despite sealing the match in straight sets.
The 24-year-old, who is seen as one of Europe’s rising stars, admitted that although he won 3-0, the Nigerian gave him a tough battle throughout. “It might look easy when you see the result, but every set was close,” Lind said. “Aruna is a very experienced and dangerous player. I had to stay focused from the first point to the last.”

Lind highlighted his service game as a key factor in the win. “My serves worked really well today. That gave me an advantage in controlling the rallies. But Aruna adjusted quickly, so I needed to stay sharp,” he explained.
The Dane praised the Nigerian’s resilience and sportsmanship. “He fought hard and never gave up. Even when I was leading, he kept pushing. Playing against players like him makes me improve as well.”
Asked about his ambitions for the tournament, Lind kept his goals modest. “For me, it’s about playing good matches. Winning is nice, of course, but I focus on performing well and enjoying the challenge. This was a very positive start.”
He also acknowledged the energy of the crowd in China, saying it added to the intensity of the match. “The atmosphere was fantastic. The fans know their table tennis, and you can feel their excitement. It motivates us to play at a high level.”
Lind’s victory puts him through to the next round, where he will face another higher-ranked opponent. He says he is prepared for another tough test.
