The 2024 Lekki Scrabble Classics concluded with resounding success, providing a platform for both emerging and established players to showcase their talents.
Samuel Anikoh, President of the Lekki Scrabble Club, expressed satisfaction with the event’s turnout, emphasizing how it created opportunities for young players to thrive while attracting top competitors from across Africa.

Anikoh noted that the Classics serve as an essential part of players’ preparations for the upcoming African Scrabble Championship in Kigali, Rwanda, scheduled for October.
He highlighted the importance of the event in sharpening skills and fostering competition at the highest level.
“We’re happy to see this platform grow and provide players with the exposure and competition they need ahead of major events like the African Championship,” Anikoh said.
Ebikeme Adowei, the immediate past president and a founding member of the club, also hailed the tournament as a success, echoing sentiments from participants and spectators alike who praised the level of competition.
The closing ceremony attracted notable figures, including Nigeria Scrabble Federation President Olobatoke Aka and former Guinness World Record holder Hilda Baci.
Attendees were treated to an exhibition match between Tachie-Menson and former world champion Wellington Jighere, showcasing top-tier Scrabble action.
Adding to the excitement, Hilda Baci, the celebrity cook and an avid Scrabble enthusiast, participated in an exhibition match.
Baci, teaming up with Nigerian wonder kid, Ekeruche Sophia, faced off against Team Adeola-Favour, delighting the audience with her enthusiasm for the game.
