The Thunder Games 2023, a thrilling volleyball tournament hosted by the Lekki Volleyball Club at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, concluded on December 9, 2023, with Lekki Cruisers emerging as the champions in both the Male and Female categories.
In an intense 5-day competition that brought together 10 male and 8 female teams from across Lagos State, Lekki Cruisers showcased exceptional skill and determination.
The participating teams, including Legacy VC, Logistics Spikers, Icons, and others, competed fiercely in the tournament that lived up to its tagline, ‘The Best of Lagos.’
Sponsored by prominent brands such as MTN Nigeria, Yello Sisi, Amstel Malta, TDA Couture, and others, the Thunder Games drew a packed stadium audience and online viewers, creating an electrifying atmosphere.
Gbegbaje Chamuke Odafe, President of the Lekki Volleyball Club, expressed pride in the club’s accomplishment, stating, “The players and the club put in a lot preparing for this tournament.
So winning in both the male and female categories just confirms that with proper preparations, there can be no limitations in life. This is a proud moment for us as a club.”
Engr Olusola Aluko, the chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, expressed excitement about the tournament’s success, providing top-class volleyball entertainment for the volleyball community in Nigeria.

He noted the splendid talents showcased and emphasized the commitment to promoting the sport.
“This is the second edition of the tournament, and we aimed to match the quality we offered last year. I am glad to say we did, as splendid volleyball talents were showcased in front of an excited audience. For us, we are simply proud to promote this lovely game,” he said.
Special performers of the event were recognized, with Mayowa and Rafiyat of Lekki Cruisers earning the titles of Most Valuable Male and Female Players, respectively.
Amina of Logistics Spikers received the award for ‘Best Female Blocker,’ while Abuchi of Legacy Volleyball Club was honoured as the ‘Best Male Blocker.’
