Chief Operating officer of Utility Sports FC, participant in the Surulere Regional League 2, Lawal Abiodun has revealed his enthusiasm over sporting activities return after several months layoffs amidst the scourging global pandemic following the indefinite suspension of sports since it’s breakout as he allayed the extent of the virus menace which as unarguably undermine the standard, proficiency of the players and stakeholders in the game especially in the grassroots level.
In an exclusive online chat with sports247.ng, the Surulere based club CEO further posited that the lockdown has enormously reduced the level of competitiveness of the players and the team generally as he gives insight to the team’s activities since the lockdown.
“We have been doing a lot at home and estate pitches to prepare the players for football resumption and as such, our preparedness and readiness is 110% mentally, physically, and psychologically going into the new season.”
“I have to admit that the federation’s immediate intervention to stop the game quickly so as to curb the virus is very commendable, now that sporting activities is back without the fans, it is really a welcomed news and a delightful one indeed, without fans we believe it is for the safety of everyone to guide against the spread of the life claiming virus.”
In lieu of this new development, Abiodun has now called on the government, corporate bodies, major stakeholders’ supports which will go a long way to empower the youth players around the country in terms of facilities, kit deals, sponsorship and deliberate proliferated actions for the betterment of grassroots at all levels.
Utility Sports FC who will take up several scouting programs and other tournaments around the country will begin their Surulere regional league 2 campaign soon as they gear up for the Trem cup and other major grassroots league within Lagos and other states with the ultimate aim to be a part of the SRL league 1 after gaining promotion.
