Over the weekend, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) carried out a major enforcement operation to remove illegally parked tankers around the Dangote Refinery and the Lekki Free Trade Zone.
This proactive step, aimed at preventing traffic congestion and ensuring smooth vehicular flow, followed multiple warnings from the Lagos State Government.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, supervised the exercise, reiterating the government’s zero-tolerance stance on indiscriminate parking, particularly in high-traffic zones such as the Dangote Refinery, the Lekki Free Trade Zone, and the Lekki-Ajah Expressway.
Additionally, LASTMA cleared 120 vehicles, including private cars and commercial buses, illegally parked on bridges between Ebute-Ero and Ejalonibu on Lagos Island.
Hon. Giwa expressed disappointment at the continued use of bridges as unauthorized parking areas, despite repeated warnings, and emphasized the government’s commitment to strict enforcement.
The state has introduced measures like the ‘Eto’ system to manage truck movements at the Dangote Refinery and a dedicated Traffic Monitoring Zone (TMZ) in Lekki to improve traffic flow. Impounded vehicles will face prosecution at Lagos State Mobile Courts, serving as a punitive and deterrent measure.
Motorists were urged to adhere to traffic regulations to ensure orderliness and seamless movement across the state.
