Following the elimination of the defending champions of the Nigerian Federation’s Cup, Bayelsa United, General Manager of the Nigeria National League NNL side, Ebiki Timitimi has come out to reveal that winners of last editions of both male and female Federation’s Cup Bayelsa United and Bayelsa Queens have not been paid thier prize money for winning both competitions.
Bayelsa United and Bayelsa Queens won last Season’s Federation’s Cup, emerging Champions of the competition against all odds and against all clubs plying thier trades in the NPFL. Speaking after the thier ouster from the competition, Timitimi lamented how his team is being owed thier prize money despite having a sponsor for the Federation’s Cup. “The truth is that we all need to put our hands on deck. It’s so unfortunate that the prize we won last season, up till now has not been paid. The money has not been paid. Very funny, and we want our football to grow? Twenty-five Million for Bayelsa United and Ten Million for the Queens. Altogether is thirty-five million.”
At the field of the University of Nigeria, Bayelsa United failed to make it to the next stage of the federation’s cup after thier match with Green Berets ended in a barren draw. Green Berets later went on to win 5-4 on penalties as Bayelsa United fail to defend thier Championship.
