LALIGA/NPFL U15 CHAMPIONSHIP: JUNIOR PROMISE KEEPERS ARRIVE ENUGU, TARGET MAIDEN TITLE

Akwa United U-15 team have arrived Enugu, the venue for this year’s LA LIGA/NPFL championship with the aim of winning the tournament for the first time in their history.

The junior Promise Keepers have been drawn in Group A alongside Abia Warriors,Jigawa Golden Stars, MFM and Kwara United at the Championship.

The competition which seeks to draw talents from the U-15 teams of all the 20 clubs in the Nigeria Professional Football League will kick-off on Thursday,15th April 2021 with the final slated for Sunday, 2nd May, 2021 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.

Akwa United will be looking to go one step better this season after they were knocked out at the semifinal stage in the 2019 edition of the championship. Team Akwa United is made up of 21 players and seven officials

Head coach of the U-15 team, Edward Edemekong expressed optimism that his team is fully prepared for the championship and will go all the way to make the state proud.

“We are fully ready for this year’s championship because we have learnt alot from our past experiences. We are happy for the opportunity to participate in this championship.

“We have carefully assembled a very good team for this year’s championship and I believe with the talents in our team, we will definitely do better than what we did last time because our target is to win the championship”.

The U-15 Team Manager Mr. Anietie Christo commended the management of Akwa United FC under the leadership of Elder Paul Bassey for providing adequate logistics to make it possible for the team to participate in this year’s championship.

“We are really grateful to the management of Akwa United FC for all the support and encouragement given to us to be able to take part in this year’s competition.

“The players and the officials are in good spirit and we will do our best to make the state proud at the end of the championship”.

The twenty participating clubs have been drawn into four groups of five teams each. And the top two teams from each group will progress to the quarter final stage of the competition.
